His Family

Bishop Ted G. Thomas, Sr., was born on October 19, 1935 in Raeford, North Carolina to godly parents, the late Elder Simuel Thomas, Sr., and the late Mother Nancy Thomas. Dedicating him to God from his birth, his parents reared him in the holiness church. Just like Samuel heard the voice of the Lord at an early age, God spoke to young Thomas at the age of eight that he would one day be a Bishop. With his destiny revealed, Thomas endeavored very early on to live and conduct himself in a godly and professional manner.

Later while attending college at Norfolk State University, Thomas met a distinctively attractive young lady who caught his attention, Ms. Charletta Virginia Clifton. The granddaughter of the late Overseer Charles Cypress and the daughter of the late Superintendent Junius and Mrs. Virginia Clifton, she too was seeking a quality education as well as a holy life. Heeding the Word of God’s admonition that “it is better to marry than to burn,” and the promise that “whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord,” he and Mother Thomas were joined in holy matrimony in 1957.

Holding fast to the Word of God, Bishop Thomas whole heartedly believes that a bishop should meet the qualifications of Titus 1:6-8: “the husband of one wife,” he and Mother Thomas have been married for more than 54 years; “faithful children,” to their union, the Lord blessed with six sons, three daughter-in-laws and ten grandchildren, many of whom serve as elders, missionaries or lay members in the Church Of God In Christ;  and “blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate.”

By his record and testimony, Bishop Thomas is truly a living example of what the Bible requires in a servant leader. Indeed, the Scriptures testify that, “…He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God” (II Samuel 23:3).
